Offering Directions for the Journey

An article on CompuServe, (March 11, 2003), listed the results of a Harris Poll, which surveyed 2,201 American adults about their religious beliefs. Here’s what was discovered.

Watson, my good fellow, tell the people not to send an e-mail about the survey.

I already know the percentages only add up to 99%.

Oh Watson.  Would you be a good sport and ask our guests to choose the category above that matches their belief and then read our questions and comments below about their choice?

 

For the majority – Why do you think heaven is in your future? Something isn’t true just because we think it is! We’ve heard many people share why they think they’ll go to heaven and after comparing it to what we think the Bible says, we’ve concluded some of these 63%-ers will be in for a rude awakening.

For the minority – Wouldn’t you like to avoid what you're fully expecting to happen? This may upset some people’s view of God, but we’re of the conviction that not even a 1%er is beyond his reach.

For the purgatory people – Where’s your evidence that purgatory exists? This appears to be a critical question because if a 6%er’s hope is in something non-existent, they’ll be in one of the other categories and they may not have a say in the selection process.

For the someplace else folks – Where might that be and what’s the basis for your belief? This is similar to the question for the purgatory folks only there’s almost twice as many people in this group and they’re all expecting to go somewhere. Problem is, it might not be a trip they’d want to take.

For the clueless – Do you think maybe it’s time to get a clue? We’re talking about a whole lot of people when we look at the 18%er’s and we don’t know of a single one of them that has a guarantee for another moment of life.
